Healthcare Financial Management Association - Southern California Chapter
HFMA helps healthcare finance professionals meet the challenges of the modern healthcare environment by: providing education, analysis, and guidance; building and supporting coalitions with other healthcare associations to ensure accurate representation of the healthcare finance profession; educating a broad spectrum of key industry decision makers on the intricacies and realities of maintaining fiscally healthy healthcare organizations.
President's Message March 2014
As we enter March 2014 we close out a lot of accomplishments in our first quarter of 2014 with a successful Region 11 Symposium in San Diego and great local programs in both January and February.
As we move further into 2014 the challenges to the healthcare sector are numerous but by many measures we are moving forward. Covered California continues to set the pace among many states and successfully enrolled 1.6 million covered lives as of January 31. Over 700K of those lives bought plans sold through the exchange and the balance of lives were added to MediCal coverage. Only when enrollment ends can we evaluate the outcome of a new way to provide coverage to Californians. In the interim hospitals and physicians are working together as never before to provide quality care at a lower cost.
Your HFMA chapter leadership continues to plan a large array of educational events. In March we will provide a combination of in person and virtual educational opportunities.
- March 13, 2014 Spring Program "The Race is On" at the Center for Health Communities in downtown LA
- March 20, 2014, Managing the Care Continuum - Working with Providers at ALL Levels to Minimize Readmissions
Be sure to also consider our March 29th Social and Networking Event, "The Modern by Moonlight Walking Tour".
Your chapter has launched a program announcement email process to inform our membership about upcoming events while reducing the number of email reminder messages. Each program announcement dynamically delivers the calendar of upcoming events with links to registration web pages. We know you are buried by emails and this is our attempt to lessen the load. Please recognize that if you do not read it you may miss some great programming.
2014 is going to be a great year and your chapter is blessed with committed volunteers working to bring you the information you need to succeed and the information you need to succeed. Enjoy the programs and feel free to become more active as a volunteer. Those who get the most from HFMA are usually those who give the most. A 60 year tradition for HFMA SOCAL!
Jim Moynihan, Chapter President 2013-2014
