President's Welcome - Scott Ujita

For those of you that remember, Dr. Benjamin Carson spoke at the 8th annual HFMA Region 11 Healthcare Symposium at Caesars Palace in January 2006.  I was very interested to hear his stories about healthcare and was impressed by his work as a pediatric neurosurgeon.  Thinking about Dr. Carson’s accomplishments led me to think about our chapter.  The stated purpose of National HFMA is “To define, realize, and advance the financial management of health care by helping members and others improve the business performance of organizations operating in or serving the healthcare field.”  I thought about how our local chapter has achieved this and how it comes from the resources that the chapter receives from both our volunteers and our sponsors.  HFMA Southern California is a not-for-profit 501 (c)(6) organization.  We are run by a volunteer board, committees and committee members.  All of these volunteers work tirelessly to plan, implement and execute all of our events that take place throughout the year.  We are ever increasing the number of educational events throughout the year.  Previously, we offered 2 half day programs and 1 full day program during the year.  We’ve now increased this to 3 full day programs.  We have a strong presentation of webinars and special education classes ranging from cost report preparation to revenue cycle training.  Without our volunteers, we would not be able to offer any of these services.  I would like to thank every single member who volunteers his/her time to make our chapter successful.

The second group I would like to thank is our chapter sponsors.  Although our chapter receives limited support from National (a rebate of about 10% of membership dues), without the generous donations from our sponsors, it would be difficult for our chapter to train our leaders, provide quality education, and sponsor networking events.  Thank you to our 2012/ 2013 sponsors:
